Transportation, storage and courier services sector receipts reach $486.5b
The 2010 figure represents a 25.8% increase in business receipts and other income.
According to the results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Economic Activities - Transportation, Storage and Courier Services Sector released by the Census and Statistics Department, total receipts on a per establishment basis increased by 32.6% compared with 2009 to $17.3 million in 2010.
The Census and Statistics Department further reported:
Operating expenses and compensation of employees of the sector altogether amounted to $411.2 billion in 2010, representing an increase of 18.2% over 2009; on a per establishment basis, they increased by 24.6% compared with 2009 to $14.6 million in 2010. Gross surplus of the sector, which is equal to total receipts less operating expenses and compensation of employees, increased by 93.8% over 2009 to $75.3 billion in 2010; on a per establishment basis, gross surplus increased from $1.3 million in 2009 to $2.7 million in 2010. Gross surplus accounted for 15.5% of total receipts in 2010, up by 5.4 percentage points over 2009. Value added of the sector, which is a measure of its contribution to Hong Kong's Gross Domestic Product, increased significantly by 40.5% over 2009 to $131.4 billion in 2010; on a per establishment basis, the value added was $4.7 million in 2010, which increased by 48.1% over 2009. According to the survey results, it was estimated that the sector comprised some 28 100 establishments and engaged about 221 100 persons, or an average of 7.9 persons per establishment, in 2010. |
