Government to shell out $2.5b in Fanling Highway widening project
Contract awarded to China State Construction Engineering.
According to a report, the Highways Department has signed a $2.5 billion contract with China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) for the widening of Fanling Highway.
Director of Highways Lau Ka-keung said at the signing ceremony today a 2km section of Fanling Highway between Tai Hang and Wo Hop Shek Interchange will be widened from a dual three-lane carriageway to dual four lane.
The works also include the realignment of a 1.2km section of Tai Wo Service Road West and a 1km section of Tai Wo Service Road East; construction of a vehicular bridge at Kau Lung Hang; and, demolition and reprovisioning of five existing footbridges and associated noise barriers.
The project is being implemented in two stages. Stage one works for the widening of a 5.7km section of Tolo Highway between Island House Interchange and Tai Hang started in August 2009 and are scheduled for completion next year.
Stage two works for the widening of a 3km section of Fanling Highway between Tai Hang and Wo Hop Shek Interchange will be implemented under two contracts.
In addition to the contract signed today, the remaining 1km section of Fanling Highway between Nam Wa Po and Kiu Tau will be widened under the Civil Engineering Development Department’s Liantang-Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point Site Formation & Infrastructure Works - Contract 3, which started in July.
The whole project for widening of Fanling Highway is scheduled for completion in 2018.
