Hong Kong statutory minimum wage pegged at $28 per hour
The Labour Department released the statutory minimum wage reference guidelines to aid employers and workers in understanding the Ordinance's practical application.
According to Hong Kong Information Services Department, the statutory minimum wage will come into force on May 1.
The ordinance aims to hinder excessively low wages and minimise the loss of low-paid jobs while sustaining Hong Kong's economic growth and competitiveness.
Commisioner for Labour Cheuk Wing-hing said employees' renumeration and benefits cannot be lower than what they earned before the implementation of the statutory minimum wage. Cheuk also encouraged employers to provide a good working condition to their employees.
